A Review of Sony’s New And Elegant LCD Phot Frame

Sony’s getting ready to bring to the market a Digital Picture Frame soon, in time for the holiday season.  The 7” DPF-D72N/BQ Digital Picture Frame will sport a LCD WVGA video display, has a remote control, has light and intense colors, comes with a 16:10 aspect ratio LCD, has many playback options, and has a resolution of 800×480.  It will have 1GB of memory to store and hold your photos.  According to Sony’s webpage, the internal memory is able to save up to 2,000 photos!  This Sony digital frame can display 2 image formats: JPEG and RAW.  And since all digital cameras save in JPEG, then this Sony digital frame will certainly work with all of them!

It is able to use many of the common memory card formats and it is able to get photos via a USB port.  Here is a compilation of all the many memory card forms that are supported: Secure Digital (SD), xD-picture cards, Compact Flash Card Type I and Type II, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, and Multi-Media Card (MMC).

Some other features are Auto Resizing and Auto Rotation, and these two features will always be very handy.  Auto Resizing automatically shrinks or blows up your photos for best display, without loosing the photo’s dimensions or clarity.  The other feature, Auto Orientation, is able to automatically choose if your photos must be in portrait or landscape format!  With this feature in place you are allowed to put up your digital lcd frame horizontally or vertically, but, images are shown much better in landscape.

Additional features include different viewing modes, a clock and a calendar.  When it enters the shops, expect to pay about 150 dollars for this unit.

Three main features that are missing from this digital frame are audio, video, and wireless support.  And since today wireless is the norm, it is very interesting that Sony would release this digital picture frame that lacks wireless support.
